General Points
What Windows versions my guide is for?
Windows XP , Vista , 7 and 8/8.1
What software I recommend? (some works starting with vista I have tested in Windows 7 pro 64bit VM)
- R3dfox browser, r3dfox is a fork of the open source web browser Mozilla Firefox made specifically for Windows Vista, 7, and 8 compatibility. Limited compatibility with One Core API on Windows XP is offered at the current time, however this is not tested consistently. Any issues that may arise that are hard to diagnose may be left to the extended kernel provider to fix. as in the project description, here is the project github link R3dfox browser github
- Supermium browser, Supermium is a drop-in replacement for Google Chrome with privacy and usability enhancements, optimized for legacy and modern Windows systems alike. Supermium is developed by win32. It aims to restore classic Chrome features, as well as to ensure that compatibility with legacy Windows is preserved. The future of Chromium browser customization as per the project description , here is the link for Supermium Browser website
- For security I recommend installing a firewall , you can install any firewall you want but I recommend Comodo firewall it has great features
In conclusion your computer is NOT obsolete, you can run it and use it in 2026 don't belive anybody telling you its insecure , we are using the internet not the magic force , internet attacks rely on ports open or vulenrable browser either that or you as the user install it yourself , keep you computer alive , save money and enjoy your life! and Happy Computing
